September 10, 2024inDrive, a global leader in mobility and urban services, is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia, with a strong focus on Malaysia and ambitious plans for growth and community engagement.
As Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing market is projected to reach USD 8.87 billion by 2024 and grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.39% from 2024 to 2029, inDrive is positioning itself as a key player. In Malaysia specifically, the market is set to grow at a 3.5% CAGR during this period, reaching a market volume of USD 0.57 billion (about RM 2.48 billion) by 2029. The number of ride-hailing users in Malaysia is expected to rise significantly, reaching 11.47 million by 2029, with user penetration growing from 28.1% in 2024 to 31.5% by 2029.
Since its entry into Malaysia, inDrive has rapidly expanded into major urban areas like Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru. In the first half of 2024, the company saw a 20% increase in rides and a 21% rise in active users. The number of drivers is also expected to grow by 23%, reflecting the increasing demand for inDrive’s unique ride-hailing services.
“The Malaysian market is a key area of growth for us in Southeast Asia, and we are dedicated to delivering innovative, community-centered mobility solutions that address local needs,” said Natalia Makarenko, Marketing Director APAC, inDrive. “Our goal is to provide not just a superior ride-hailing experience but also to become a meaningful part of the communities we serve, through sustainable practices and impactful initiatives.”
inDrive distinguishes itself in the competitive ride-hailing market by enabling passengers and drivers to negotiate fares directly, offering flexibility and fairness that sets it apart from traditional pricing models. Beyond ride-hailing, inDrive provides a variety of mobility solutions, including intercity transportation and “inDrive Services,” a platform where users can find specialists for tasks ranging from household assistance to pet care, catering to Malaysia’s diverse needs.
To support its growth, inDrive is launching several strategic initiatives in Malaysia. Future plans include improving the driver experience by introducing benefits such as insurance coverage, loyalty programs, and training support. The company also aims to expand driver support centers in key cities like Penang and Johor Bahru, and is exploring the launch of an Electric Vehicle (EV) fleet to promote sustainable mobility solutions. These initiatives align with inDrive’s broader strategy to capitalize on Southeast Asia’s growth and provide value-driven services.
inDrive is also committed to making a positive impact through its charitable arm, inVision, with a goal to positively affect over 1 billion lives by 2030. Initiatives like the Aurora Tech Award, which supports women-led tech startups, and the Alternativa Film Project, which backs filmmakers promoting social change, reflect inDrive’s dedication to social good and innovation.
As it continues to grow in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, inDrive remains focused on creating meaningful connections, supporting local communities, and driving positive change through innovative and sustainable practices.
