Sony is returning for the sixth time as the main official industrial sponsor of EnergaCamerimage 2024, showcasing its latest advancements in cinematography technology and connecting with professionals in the field.

“Having been part of EnergaCamerimage for the past 20 years, we’re excited to support the industry once again at this important event for cinematographers. In a time when the industry faces significant pressures and changes, we must engage with DoPs, ACs, students, and other industry professionals worldwide,” said Sebastian Leske, Head of Business Development, Cinema, Sony Europe.

At EnergaCamerimage, Sony will also unveil updates to its Cinema Line cameras, including:

VENICE 2 Version 4.0
The VENICE 2 has become a top choice for DoPs worldwide, and with the new Version 4.0 firmware, launching in August 2025, it will offer the following updates:

  • EL Zone System™ Support: Created by Ed Lachman, ASC (recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at EnergaCamerimage), this system uses exposure values in stops, making exposure reading easier for operators. It adds to the existing tools in VENICE 2.
  • Frame Line Display Options: Frame lines can now be displayed in various colors based on user feedback, simplifying the process of shooting for different formats or purposes.

Sony will continue to enhance VENICE 2 with future updates, including Version 5.0 in 2026 and Version 6.0 in 2027.

FX6 Version 6.0
The FX6 will receive an upgrade in February 2026, featuring:

  • A new “BIG6” simple UI, allowing filmmakers to adjust key settings, ensuring consistency across CineAlta cameras like VENICE and BURANO.
  • A black frame for clearer on-screen display (OSD) information.
  • Support for SDI RAW Output with Blackmagic RAW recording via Blackmagic Design’s Video Assist recorder.

FX3 Version 7.0 & FX30 Version 6.0
Launching in September 2025, these updates will align with the broader Cinema Line UX, adding:

  • The “BIG6” UI for easy adjustments.
  • Anamorphic de-squeeze 1.5x, providing greater lens flexibility.
  • HDMI RAW Output for Blackmagic RAW recording with Blackmagic Design’s Video Assist recorders.

Additionally, BURANO Version 2.0, set for release in March 2025, will be showcased for the first time, featuring new recording formats, 1.8x de-squeeze, and improved monitoring tools.

Sony will also host three seminars at EnergaCamerimage:

  • November 19: “In Conversation: Cinematographers Nominated at Camerimage 2024” with Mikhail Krichman, Veronika Tyron, and Rachel Clark, discussing how they used Sony cameras to bring their vision to life.
  • November 20: “Illuminating Stories: A Sony Masterclass with Ed Lachman and Marko Massinger” on the art of lighting.
  • November 21: “Building a Sustainable Industry” with Andra Milsome, Fabian Wagner, ASC, BSC, and Irena Gruca-Rozbicka, addressing career challenges for crew members.

Alongside networking events, attendees can explore Sony’s shooting, post-production, and workflow solutions. The full CineAlta lineup, including the VENICE 2, VENICE Extension System 2, and BURANO, will be on display, along with Sony’s range of lenses and professional monitors.
