Get ready to step into a world where style and technology speak the same language.

Design

The Galaxy Z Flip’s signature design lies in its ability to fold horizontally, transforming a standard-sized smartphone into a compact, pocketable square. This makes it perfect for users who want the benefit of a large screen without the bulk of a large device. When unfolded, its tall and narrow aspect ratio is ideal for vertical content, such as scrolling through social media feeds.

Displays

At the heart of the Z Flip’s design are its two displays:

Main Internal Display – The centerpiece of the device is its foldable 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smooth visuals and vibrant colors. Built with Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) and reinforced by a protective plastic layer, it is designed to withstand repeated folding.

The crease has marvelously decreased than the previous precedents

However, it remains more delicate than traditional smartphone glass and should be handled with care to avoid scratches or impressions from fingernails.

The External Flex Window: This small screen on the outside of the phone has evolved dramatically over the generations. The Z Flip 7 features a large, 4.1-inch Super AMOLED “FlexWindow” that is far more functional than previous models.

This larger screen allows users to check notifications, reply to messages, use widgets, and even take selfies without opening the phone. This reduces the need to constantly unfold the device, which is a major convenience and a key design improvement.

Hinge Mechanism

The hinge is the centerpiece of the Galaxy Z Flip’s engineering — a constant area of refinement and innovation for Samsung. The Hideaway Hinge is a precision-built mechanism that allows the phone to open and close smoothly, while also holding its position at multiple angles. This feature, known as Flex Mode, enables hands-free use for video calls, selfies, or watching content without needing a stand.

Over successive generations, Samsung has improved the hinge to minimize the visible gap when the phone is closed and to increase protection against dust and debris. While the Z Flip series carries an IPX8 water resistance rating (withstanding submersion in water), it does not have an official dust-resistance certification. To counter this, Samsung integrates sweeper technology into the hinge, helping to repel particles and maintain smooth performance over time.

Durability

While the Galaxy Z Flip’s folding design is groundbreaking, durability has always been a key consideration. The main folding screen, though improved, is still not as resistant as the Gorilla Glass found on traditional smartphones and can be more prone to scratches from small particles.

That said, the Galaxy Z Flip7 undergoes rigorous durability testing to ensure reliability in everyday use. Its hinge and frame are engineered to withstand significant stress, while the outer body is reinforced with Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus, offering robust protection against drops and impacts.

The Camera

The camera system on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 combines modest hardware upgrades with powerful software and AI enhancements, designed to take full advantage of its foldable form factor.

While it doesn’t offer the telephoto capabilities of the flagship Galaxy S Ultra series, the Z Flip7 is widely regarded as one of the most capable camera systems on a clamshell-style foldable.

Hardware Specifications

The Galaxy Z Flip7 features a dual-camera setup on the rear and a single front-facing camera inside the foldable display:

Main Camera: 50MP sensor, f/1.8 aperture, Dual Pixel PDAF, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The hardware remains the same as its predecessor, but enhanced processing and AI optimizations deliver sharper results. The large sensor also supports “optical-quality” 2x zoom by cropping into the sensor.

Ultrawide Camera: 12MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, with a 123° field of view — ideal for landscapes, group shots, or capturing more within the frame.

Front Camera: 10MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, placed within a punch-hole on the internal screen for selfies and video calls.

Unique Features & Software

The Z Flip7’s real strength lies in how its software takes advantage of the foldable design:

FlexCam: A standout feature. By partially folding the phone, you can use the high-quality rear cameras for selfies and video calls, with the cover display serving as a viewfinder. The foldable design also allows the phone to act as its own tripod for hands-free shots.

Flex Mode Interface: When partially folded, the camera app switches to a split-screen “laptop” layout — the top half for the viewfinder, the bottom for controls and previews. This makes it easier to frame low-angle or stabilized shots.

Expanded FlexWindow Functionality: The larger cover screen makes the viewfinder bigger and more practical than before, letting you preview shots, adjust settings, and shoot without opening the phone.

Galaxy AI with ProVisual Engine: Samsung integrates advanced AI tools to boost creativity and image quality:

Generative Edit: Move, remove, or fill objects seamlessly in photos.

Enhanced Nightography: AI-powered low-light improvements for brighter, clearer shots and videos.

AI Zoom: Uses AI to improve detail and reduce noise at digital zoom levels, especially at 2x.

Performance & Quality

Daylight Photography: The 50MP main camera captures sharp, vibrant images with Samsung’s signature color profile. The ultrawide camera also delivers reliable results with a wide field of view.

Low-Light Photography: Thanks to Nightography, low-light performance is noticeably improved, though it still falls short of the Galaxy S Ultra series. Adequate surrounding light is recommended for best results.

Video: The Galaxy Z Flip7 records up to 4K at 60fps on all three cameras (main, ultrawide, and front). Stabilization is solid, and color reproduction is accurate, making it great for both casual vlogging and polished video content.

One UI 8 and the FlexWindow

One UI 8 is Samsung’s custom interface layered on top of Android 16. It’s designed to make the most of the Z Flip’s unique hardware, especially the new, larger 4.1-inch external “FlexWindow.”

Expanded Functionality: The software for the FlexWindow is much more robust than on previous models. Users can now do much more without opening the phone, including checking notifications, using widgets, and interacting with a wider range of apps.

Now Brief and Now Bar: The cover screen has new features like the Now Brief, which gives a quick summary of your day (weather, calendar, etc.), and the Now Bar, which offers quick access to music controls, notifications, and other active apps.

Customization: One UI 8 offers extensive customization options for the FlexWindow, allowing users to personalize wallpapers, widgets, and even colors to match their style.

Galaxy AI

The Z Flip 7 is a flagship for Samsung’s “Galaxy AI” features, which are deeply integrated into the software. These AI tools are designed to enhance productivity, creativity, and daily tasks.

Gemini Integration: The phone features an integration with Google’s Gemini assistant, which can be accessed directly from the FlexWindow. A notable feature is “Gemini Live,” which allows you to use the camera to ask questions about what you’re seeing in real-time.

For example, you can point your camera at a clothing tag and ask Gemini for laundry instructions.

Photo Editing: The “ProVisual Engine” and AI-powered editing tools make it easier to enhance photos and videos. This includes features like generative AI to fill in backgrounds or move subjects within an image.

Flex Mode

This is a core software feature that leverages the Z Flip’s folding design. When the phone is partially folded, the software automatically splits the display.

Optimized Apps: In apps like YouTube, the top half of the screen shows the video while the bottom half becomes a control panel. This also applies to the camera app, allowing the phone to act as its own tripod for hands-free selfies and video calls.

Samsung DeX

For the first time on a Z Flip model, the Z Flip 7 supports Samsung DeX. This feature allows you to connect the phone to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to create a desktop-like computing experience. This is a significant addition for users who want to use their phone as a portable workstation.

 Software Support and Longevity

Samsung has made an industry-leading commitment to software support for the Z Flip 7. It will receive seven generations of Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. This means the phone will be supported for a very long time, ensuring users have access to the latest features and security patches until at least 2032. This long-term commitment is a major selling point for users who want a device that will last for many years

Battery

The Z Flip 7 features a larger 4,300mAh battery, a significant bump from the 4,000mAh battery in the Z Flip 6. This increase, combined with the new, more power-efficient Exynos 2500 chipset, results in improved battery life.

Improved Endurance: In various tests, the Z Flip 7 has shown meaningful gains in screen-on time, particularly for tasks like video playback and web browsing. Some reviews have noted a few extra hours of use in these categories compared to the previous model.

Mixed Results: While there’s a definite improvement, real-world usage can vary. Some users have reported that the phone can easily last a full day of heavy use, while others have found themselves needing an early evening top-off. Factors like intensive gaming or extensive use of the main folding screen will naturally drain the battery more quickly.

Charging Speeds

This is one area where the Z Flip 7 has not seen much change, which has been a point of criticism for some reviewers.

Wired Charging: The phone supports 25W wired “Super Fast Charging,” which is the same speed as the Z Flip 6. While this is a decent speed, it’s not on par with many other flagship smartphones or even some mid-range Samsung devices that offer 45W charging. A full charge from empty can take about an hour and a half.

Wireless Charging: The Z Flip 7 continues to support wireless charging, but some sources indicate the speed has been slightly downgraded to 10W from the 15W of the Z Flip 6, a puzzling decision. This means wireless charging is best for overnight charging or quick top-ups, not for getting a rapid boost.

In Summary

The Z Flip design is a successful marriage of style and function. It offers the benefit of a large-screen device in a small, portable package. The key design elements—the folding form factor, dual displays, and sophisticated hinge—work together to create a unique user experience. While it requires more care than a typical “slab” phone, Samsung’s continuous improvements have made the Z Flip an increasingly durable and practical device.
