Sony Malaysia Unveils the New Alpha 7R VI with 66.8MP Full-Frame Sensor
May 26, 2026Sony has officially introduced the new Sony Alpha 7R VI, the sixth-generation model in its renowned Alpha 7R series. Built upon the legacy of high-resolution imaging, the latest camera combines an approximately 66.8 effective megapixel back-illuminated, fully-stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor with Sony’s new BIONZ XR2™ image processing engine, delivering exceptional image quality, speed, and intelligent subject recognition for both photography and video creators.
Alongside the new camera, Sony also announced the Sony XLR-A4, a professional XLR adaptor designed to expand on-camera audio capabilities with support for advanced 32-bit float recording.
High-Resolution Imaging with Enhanced Stabilisation
The Alpha 7R VI features a newly developed 66.8MP full-frame, fully-stacked Exmor RS sensor capable of delivering up to 16 stops of dynamic range while reducing noise performance in the mid-sensitivity range. The camera also includes precise 5-axis optical image stabilisation, offering up to 8.5 stops compensation at the centre and 7.0 stops at the periphery for improved handheld shooting performance.
Sony has also enhanced colour accuracy with a new Auto White Balance system powered by visible light and infrared sensors combined with deep-learning illumination estimation, allowing the camera to produce stable and natural-looking colours even in shaded or indoor environments.
Faster AI Autofocus and Continuous Shooting
Powered by the new BIONZ XR2 engine with an integrated AI processing unit, the Alpha 7R VI delivers approximately 5.6 times faster sensor readout compared to its predecessor. The camera supports blackout-free continuous shooting at up to approximately 30 frames per second while performing up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second for reliable autofocus and exposure tracking.
The camera’s Real-time Recognition AF+ system now features skeletal-based human pose estimation and tracking, enabling more accurate focus tracking for athletes, wildlife, and other fast-moving subjects.
Built for Professional Creators
Sony equips the Alpha 7R VI with the new NP-SA100 high-capacity battery, allowing up to 710 still images using the LCD monitor or up to 600 shots via the electronic viewfinder based on CIPA standards.
The camera also features an approximately 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with a DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut and 10-bit HDR support. Sony states that the maximum brightness is approximately three times higher than conventional models, improving visibility in bright outdoor environments.
For video creators, the Alpha 7R VI supports uninterrupted 8K recording for up to 120 minutes thanks to improved heat management. Other professional features include dual USB Type-C ports for simultaneous charging and data transfer, illuminated rear buttons for easier operation in low-light conditions, and a durable magnesium alloy body paired with a versatile 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor.
The camera also supports Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution based on the C2PA standard, allowing creators and organisations to verify that images and videos were genuinely captured in-camera and not generated using AI.
Professional 8K Video and 32-bit Float Audio
The Alpha 7R VI supports 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling, alongside full-frame 4K recording at 60p and 120p without crop.
Sony also introduces Dual Gain Shooting technology for the first time in the Alpha series, helping reduce noise while preserving shadow details and delivering smoother gradation with wider dynamic latitude.
When paired with the new XLR-A4 adaptor, the camera supports internal 32-bit float audio recording, significantly reducing the need for manual gain adjustments during production.
Sony XLR-A4 Expands Professional Audio Capabilities
The new Sony XLR-A4 supports up to four-channel digital audio recording directly in-camera via Sony’s Multi Interface Shoe. It supports XLR microphones such as the Sony ECM-778 alongside 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack microphones.
The adaptor features dual AD converters designed to capture a wide dynamic range, from quiet ambience to loud action scenes, with improved clarity. It also supports digital audio recording at up to 96kHz, 32-bit float 4-channel on compatible Sony cameras.
Compared to the previous XLR-K3M, the XLR-A4 introduces a lower-profile design with a reinforced chassis structure for more stable on-location shooting. Sony also includes a shoe audio extension cable that allows the adaptor to be positioned up to approximately 60 cm away from the camera body for more flexible rig setups.
Additionally, the XLR-A4 supports USB Audio Class 2.0 functionality, enabling it to function as a 96kHz 24-bit 2-channel audio interface when connected to a PC.

Optional Accessories
Sony also introduced several optional accessories for the Alpha 7R VI, including:
- Sony NP-SA100 high-capacity rechargeable battery
- Sony VG-C6 vertical grip
- Sony BC-SAD1 dedicated dual battery charger
- Sony DC-C2 external continuous power solution
