TikTok New Features to Enhance Safety, Creativity, and Well-Being
August 4, 2025TikTok, the world’s leading platform for short-form video, has announced a suite of new features aimed at improving user safety, inspiring creativity, and supporting well-being across its global community. These updates are tailored to enhance the experience for families, creators, and all users who engage with the content they love on the platform.
Enhanced Safety for Teens and Families

As part of its ongoing commitment to teen safety, TikTok now offers over 50 features and settings designed specifically for teen accounts. These tools help younger users express themselves, connect with friends, and learn in a secure environment.
Complementing these protections is Family Pairing, a robust set of parental control features that allow parents to customize their teen’s experience. With the addition of new capabilities, parents can now:
- Receive automatic notifications when their teen uploads public content such as videos, stories, or photos, enabling open discussions without interfering with creative independence.
- View privacy setting insights, including whether a teen aged 16–17 has enabled content downloads or made their following list visible. Parents can also access topic preferences selected by their teen using the Manage Topics feature to better understand what shapes their feed.
Together with the Digital Safety Partnership for Families, these tools are part of TikTok’s broader mission to foster safer, more informed digital engagement within households.
Fostering Community Well-Being
TikTok is expanding its efforts in digital well-being through research-backed tools that promote balanced screen time and healthier online habits. Building on features like Screen Time Management and Sleep Hours, the platform introduces Well-being Missions — a series of short, interactive tasks that encourage mindful usage.
Developed in collaboration with academic experts and organizations such as the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital and TikTok’s Global Youth Council, Well-being Missions help users build long-term positive habits. As users complete these missions, they earn badges that reinforce and reward healthy behavior.
Empowering Creators with New Tools
Creators are at the heart of TikTok’s ecosystem. To help them thrive, TikTok has rolled out new tools to ensure a safer and more productive environment for content creation:
- Creator Care Mode: Filters out offensive and unwanted comments to maintain a positive comment section.
- LIVE Mute Enhancements: Allows bulk muting of specific words, phrases, and emojis during TikTok LIVE sessions.
- Content Check Lite: Enables creators to preview whether their content may be ineligible for the For You feed before publishing.
- Creator Inbox: A streamlined professional inbox to manage messages efficiently.
- Creator Chat Room: Allows direct engagement between creators and eligible followers for more meaningful interactions.
Maintaining Platform Integrity with Footnotes
To strengthen transparency and trust on the platform, TikTok is expanding its Footnotes pilot program in the U.S. This feature allows users to add and rate contextual information on videos, enhancing the accuracy and understanding of content. Participants in the pilot can now write, view, and evaluate footnotes on short-form videos — a step toward a more informed and trustworthy content ecosystem.
