The Evolution of WindFree™ Cooling

Nearly a decade ago, the company introduced its first WindFree™ air conditioner, revolutionizing home cooling by eliminating the discomfort of direct cold air. Now, in 2025, Samsung is taking this innovation even further with enhanced dehumidification, addressing one of the biggest challenges in traditional air conditioning.
2016–2018: The Birth of WindFree™ Cooling
Samsung launched the world’s first WindFree™ air conditioner in 2016, featuring patented technology that quickly cooled rooms and then maintained a comfortable temperature through thousands of micro air holes. This innovation was backed by extensive R&D and 11 global patents.
By 2017, Samsung expanded the WindFree™ lineup with its first wall-mounted model. A year later, in 2018, AI technology was integrated, bringing AI Auto Cooling and AI Purification. These smart features automatically adjusted cooling, humidity, and air purification settings based on user habits and environmental conditions. Voice control via Bixby also made its debut, allowing seamless operation through SmartThings.
2019–2022: Smarter and More Efficient Cooling
In 2019, Samsung introduced the second-generation WindFree™ air conditioner with a sleeker, minimalist design and improved airflow through over 270,000 micro air holes—more than double the previous model.
2020 saw the introduction of Easy Care, a hassle-free cleaning system with a tool-free Easy Open Panel and a Wash Clean feature for better hygiene.
By 2022, WindFree™ technology evolved beyond cooling with the addition of Warm Breeze, offering gentle warmth between 30-40°C while simultaneously purifying the air, making the system useful all year round.
2023–2024: Redefining Comfort With 3D Wide WindFree™
The third-generation WindFree™ air conditioner arrived in 2023 with a premium 3D design, crafted using advanced metal press technology. It also featured 1,500 additional micro air holes for even better cooling distribution.
In 2024, Samsung expanded Bixby voice controls, allowing users to manage temperature settings, modes, and even create complex schedules with voice commands.
2025: The Next Chapter – WindFree™ Combo
This year, Samsung takes air conditioning to the next level with the WindFree™ Combo. The new Dry Comfort feature uses intelligent sensors to regulate humidity and refrigerant flow, reducing energy consumption by up to 30% compared to previous models.
AI-driven smart climate control now learns user habits, tracks movement, and analyzes weather conditions to optimize comfort. Plus, WindFree™ air conditioners can now sync with the Galaxy Watch, automatically activating WindFree™ Wearable Good Sleep mode when users fall asleep and turning off when they wake up.
