The first-ever Digital Leadership Excellence (DLE) Programme: Navigating the Tech Frontier, a joint initiative by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and HUAWEI Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (HUAWEI Malaysia), has completed its inaugural chapter. The milestone was marked with a graduation ceremony attended by Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, who honoured the programme’s first cohort of 50 distinguished leaders from government, industry, and academia.

“Through initiatives like the DLE Programme, we strengthen our global competitiveness while advancing ASEAN’s inclusive and sustainable growth,” said Fahmi during the ceremony at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

He commended MCMC and HUAWEI Malaysia for their dedication to equipping leaders with the skills and knowledge to drive digital transformation in public service and strengthen industries.

Bridging Leadership and Technology

Launched in March 2024, the DLE Programme was developed in response to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call at the 2023 Malaysia ICT Summit to close the gap between leadership and technology. The programme aims to develop 300 Malaysian digital leaders by 2026, empowering them to lead digital transformation in their organizations and enhance operational efficiency.

  • The second chapter will engage 100 participants
  • The third and final chapter will target 150 participants

A Collaborative Vision for Digital Excellence

Simon Sun, Chief Executive Officer of HUAWEI Malaysia, praised the programme’s participants, stating:

“We at HUAWEI are proud to stand with you—Malaysia’s digital leaders—as we build a talent ecosystem that will drive the nation’s digital transformation. Your capstone projects have been truly inspiring, and as much as you’ve learned from us, we’ve also learned from you. We look forward to accelerating digital and intelligent transformation together.”

The graduation ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Capstone Report, summarizing the participants’ innovative ideas and key takeaways from the programme.

An Immersive Learning Experience

The eight-month hybrid training programme covered essential digital domains, including 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data, Green Technology, and Cybersecurity. It culminated in an industry visit to China, where participants engaged with global tech giants.

During the visit, participants:

  • Explored leading companies such as Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) and BYD Company Limited
  • Toured HUAWEI’s 1.4 square-kilometer Research Campus in Dongguan
  • Developed capstone projects addressing Malaysia’s digital challenges

Shaping Malaysia’s Digital Future

By fostering continuous learning, leadership, and innovation, the DLE Programme is paving the way for a more inclusive, sustainable, and technology-driven Malaysia. As the journey continues, the next generation of digital leaders is set to drive the nation toward becoming a regional digital powerhouse.
