Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9: Samsung Moves Wearables Towards More Proactive Wellness
September 9, 2026Samsung is taking a more proactive approach to health and wellness with its latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9.
Rather than simply collecting health data and leaving users to figure out what it means, Samsung is positioning the new Galaxy Watch lineup around personalised guidance — helping users understand their health signals and make better decisions about sleep, activity, fitness and recovery.
Tech experts across Southeast Asia and Oceania have been putting both watches through their paces since launch, with the reviews highlighting two very different approaches to wearable technology.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Built for Adventure
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is Samsung’s rugged smartwatch, designed for users who spend more time outdoors and want a watch that can keep up with demanding activities.
Fino Yurio Kristo from Detik, Indonesia, highlighted its titanium construction, improved GPS accuracy, longer battery life and overall performance, describing it as a suitable companion for strenuous activities and long-distance adventures.
One of the more notable additions is its diving capability.
Justin Choo from Potions, Singapore, pointed out that while the original Galaxy Watch Ultra was designed to handle tough environments, Samsung had previously stopped short of recommending it for diving. The Ultra2 takes the lineup further with its underwater capabilities.
Ken Chu from Ke En, Malaysia, similarly described the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 as a more practical companion for people who enjoy exploring underwater environments.
The improvements aren’t only about durability and outdoor performance. The design has also been refined for comfort, with Fuzz.my noting that the latest model feels slimmer and more comfortable to wear.
GadgetGuy’s Valens Quinn also highlighted the combination of a faster chip, brighter display and larger battery, particularly as these improvements come without an increase in price.
Galaxy Watch9: Your Everyday Health Companion
While the Ultra2 is aimed at adventurers, the Galaxy Watch9 takes a different approach.
Designed for everyday wear, the Watch9 focuses heavily on health and wellness features that can be used throughout the day.
Fino Yurio Kristo from Detik noted the slimmer design and improvements to daily health monitoring, making the watch more comfortable for extended wear without sacrificing its health-tracking capabilities.
Samsung is also putting greater emphasis on AI-powered health guidance.
According to Kevin Low from Geek Culture, the Galaxy Watch9 introduces intelligent tools designed to identify early warning signs across five key areas.
The watch can use health information collected throughout the day and during sleep to provide more personalised insights, rather than simply presenting users with a collection of numbers.
Understanding Your Health While You Sleep
One of the features highlighted in the new lineup is Vitals, which analyses information such as heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen saturation while the user sleeps.
The data is used to establish a personalised health baseline. If significant changes are detected, the watch can alert the user.
Izami Gadget from Malaysia described these preventive health features as making the Galaxy Watch9 feel more like a daily health companion.
Ngo Tran Thinh from HTV, Vietnam, also highlighted how AI can interpret health signals and turn them into guidance that feels increasingly personalised.
Samsung’s broader goal is to make complex health information easier to understand, allowing users to see patterns in their bodies and take action across areas such as sleep, activity, cardiovascular health and recovery.
Of course, these features are designed for personal wellness reference and are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. Users with health concerns should consult a qualified medical professional.
Two Watches, Two Different Lifestyles
The biggest difference between the two models comes down to how you plan to use them.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is aimed at users who want durability, endurance and precise tracking for outdoor and high-performance activities. Its rugged construction and enhanced capabilities make it more suited to trail running, demanding adventures and underwater activities.
The Galaxy Watch9, meanwhile, is designed for people who want a smartwatch they can wear every day while keeping a closer eye on their health and fitness.
Its newer AI-powered features include Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load and Fitness Index, giving users additional ways to understand their overall wellness.
Droidsans from Thailand summed up the difference by describing the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 as watches suited to adventurers and health enthusiasts, with AI-powered processing helping provide broader health and fitness guidance.
Samsung Care+ and Strava Trial
For additional protection, Samsung Care+ provides coverage for eligible Galaxy Watch users, including accidental damage protection, extended warranty coverage and repair support. Samsung says Galaxy Watch owners can receive Samsung Care+ free for the first three months, subject to the applicable terms.
Samsung is also offering a 60-day free Strava trial with the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9. The trial can be activated through the Strava app or Samsung Health app.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 Promotions in Malaysia
The latest Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 are available for purchase in Malaysia.
From 14 August to 4 October 2026, customers purchasing the latest Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 can enjoy Samsung’s exclusive launch benefits and promotions.
With the latest generation, Samsung is clearly moving its smartwatch strategy beyond simply showing users their health statistics.
The idea is to make the Galaxy Watch more useful in everyday life — helping users understand their body’s signals, recognise changes and make more informed decisions about their wellness.
