A familiar pantry staple gets a Japanese-inspired twist as Yeo’s launches its first-ever canned Teriyaki Tuna in Malaysia.

If you love tuna and Japanese flavours, Yeo’s has something new that might just make its way into your pantry.

Yeo’s has officially introduced its first-ever canned Teriyaki Tuna in Malaysia, celebrating the launch with “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist” at The Starhill Ground Floor Piazza in Bukit Bintang.

The launch brought together food, Japanese culture and interactive experiences, giving visitors a chance to discover the new flavour while enjoying a little taste of Japan right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

From familiar flavours to a Japanese-inspired twist

Yeo’s has built its name around bringing convenient Asian flavours to everyday meals, while continuously introducing new products and flavour combinations for Malaysian consumers.

The new Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna continues that approach by taking a familiar pantry staple and giving it a Japanese-inspired makeover.

The canned tuna comes with a savoury-sweet teriyaki sauce, offering a different flavour direction alongside the existing Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna.

For consumers who already enjoy keeping canned tuna at home, the new flavour also gives them another easy option for everyday meals.

According to Tan Mei Yen, Yeo’s Country General Manager, the brand has continued to evolve with changing consumer tastes while remaining connected to its heritage.

“With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, we are taking this journey a step further by introducing a Japanese-inspired flavour that brings a contemporary twist to a familiar pantry staple.”

Tuna that fits into everyday meals

Beyond flavour, Yeo’s is also highlighting the nutritional side of tuna.

A study published in Food & Nutrition Research on fish consumption among adults in Peninsular Malaysia identified tuna as the fourth most frequently consumed marine fish among those surveyed.

Meanwhile, figures from Malaysia’s Fisheries Department reported that 431,000kg of tuna worth RM7.76 million were brought into Penang in 2024, more than double the volume recorded in 2023.

These figures point to tuna’s established presence within Malaysia’s seafood landscape, while its canned format continues to offer convenience for consumers looking for simple meal options.

Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna is also positioned as high in protein and a source of Omega-3, giving consumers another convenient option to incorporate into their daily meals.

And you don’t necessarily have to eat it straight from the can.

Yeo’s suggests enjoying the Teriyaki Tuna on its own, pairing it with rice or noodles, or using it as an ingredient to create your own dishes at home.

“Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist” brings Japan to Bukit Bintang

To celebrate the launch, Yeo’s transformed The Starhill Ground Floor Piazza into a Japanese-inspired experience from 2 to 4 October 2026.

Visitors could sample the new Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna while taking part in a range of activities, including:

  • Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna sampling
  • Japan-inspired photobooth
  • Stamp-collecting adventure
  • Gashapon game
  • Cosplay Competition
  • Yeo’s product prizes
  • Touch ‘n Go reloads
  • Onsen vouchers
  • A flight ticket to Japan

The Japanese theme also extended beyond the event space.

Yeo’s brought the experience onto the streets of Bukit Bintang through a guerrilla activation inspired by Tokyo’s Shibuya Crossing. The crew appeared in kimonos and other traditional Japanese wafuku, giving members of the public an unexpected encounter with Japanese culture in one of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest areas.

You could also win a trip to Japan

For those who want to take the Japanese experience a little further, Yeo’s has launched the “Yeo’s To Japan Contest – Win Tickets to Japan.”

The contest runs from 1 October to 30 November 2026, giving consumers the chance to win a trip to Japan.

To participate, consumers need to purchase participating Yeo’s products, including Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna or Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna, then create a photo or video showing how they enjoy their Yeo’s Tuna.

The content can be shared on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, with participants tagging the applicable Yeo’s Food Malaysia social media account.

A total of 12 winners will be selected.

Where can you get Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna?

The new Yeo’s Tuna variants are now available at selected major supermarkets and hypermarkets, including:

  • Lotus’s
  • Village Grocer
  • Jaya Grocer
  • NSK Grocer
  • AEON
  • Econsave

For Malaysians who already enjoy canned tuna, the new Teriyaki flavour could be an interesting way to switch things up without making meal preparation complicated.

Instead of reaching for the same tuna flavour every time, the savoury-sweet teriyaki profile gives you another option that can work with rice, noodles or even your own creative recipes.

The Babbling Channel take

What makes Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna interesting is that it doesn’t try to reinvent canned tuna completely. Instead, it takes something familiar and gives it a flavour direction that many Malaysians already enjoy — Japanese-style teriyaki.

And with the added roadshow, cosplay activities, Gashapon games and even a chance to win tickets to Japan, Yeo’s has turned what could simply have been a new product launch into a broader Japanese-inspired experience.
