Taobao Malaysia Announces Malay-Language Interface
April 22, 2025As online demand for quality products continues to rise across the globe, Taobao Malaysia is excited to announce the upcoming launch of a Malay-language interface, tentatively set for June. This upgrade reflects Taobao’s ongoing commitment to improving the local shopping experience by catering to language preferences and making cross-border e-commerce more accessible for Malaysian users.
This announcement comes at a time when Taobao’s global popularity is reaching new heights. The app is now the second-most downloaded shopping app in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and has secured the top spot in France. Closer to home, Taobao has also become the second-most downloaded shopping app on Malaysia’s iOS platform, highlighting the strong local interest and trust in the brand.
“Our planned introduction of a Malay-language interface will mark another significant milestone in Taobao’s localisation journey,” said Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia. “It reinforces our mission to offer every Malaysian a more seamless, accessible, and worry-free shopping experience.”
More Than Just Shopping—It’s an Experience
Taobao continues to lead as a pillar of China’s e-commerce ecosystem, offering a wide variety of products and redefining how millions shop through a deeply immersive and personalised user experience. It’s a platform where users can discover new trends, spark creativity, and find daily inspiration.
In Malaysia, Taobao rolled out an English-language interface in September last year, powered by AI translation technology. The app currently supports bilingual customer service in English and Chinese, helping users overcome language barriers while exploring a vast catalogue of high-quality products. With prices displayed in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and a streamlined interface, shopping is now easier than ever.
Secure, Flexible, and Transparent
Backed by Antom and Cainiao, Taobao ensures a reliable and efficient shopping journey with a strong logistics and payment infrastructure. Malaysians can choose from various payment options, including credit and debit cards, online banking, e-wallets, and instalment plans. Users can also track their orders in real-time, all within the app.
The Taobao app can be downloaded for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
