Samsung Onyx Brings “Flow” to Life Like Never Before
August 14, 2025Visual storytelling is the heartbeat of cinema. As audiences crave richer theater experiences, more filmmakers are turning to cinema LED screens over projectors. The result? A deeper, more vivid immersion into their worlds.
Following the launch of the latest Samsung Onyx (ICD), Flow’s Golden Globe® and Academy Award®-winning producer Matīss Kaža shared how the technology elevates his dialogue-free animated film.
A Story Without Words
Flow follows a solitary, independent cat whose home is destroyed by a massive flood. Forced onto a boat with other animals, the cat learns teamwork and friendship in a beautiful, humanless world.
Why Onyx Makes a Difference
With no dialogue, Flow relies entirely on visual detail. Onyx’s deep blacks and vivid colors make contrasts pop — from the world’s lush yellows, greens, and blues to the cat’s dark gray fur. “The details come through beautifully,” says Kaža. “Onyx flows.”
Every Movement Matters
The team studied real animals down to the smallest nuance. A cat turning its ear instead of its head. Different silhouettes, weights, and gaits for each species. Onyx makes even the subtlest twitch or gaze stand out, pulling viewers further into the story.
Discovering New Details
Kaža noticed elements on Onyx that could be missed on other screens — butterflies, critters, tiny ripples in water. “These details shape the atmosphere and tone,” he says. “Onyx shows them perfectly.”
Water as a Storytelling Tool
Water is a central metaphor in Flow. From small puddle ripples to the vast flood, every movement carries meaning. Onyx displays these textures and motions with striking clarity, enhancing the film’s emotional weight.
A Cinematic Future
For Kaža, Onyx doesn’t just improve Flow — it inspires future projects. “The crispness and color range bring us back to why we love cinema,” he says. “It’s immersive, and every detail shines.”
With Onyx’s uniform image quality, filmmakers can finally see their work exactly as intended — every screening, every theater, every time.
