Samsung Empowers Youth to Tackle Healthcare Challenges Through Innovation
April 8, 2025Across Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO), many countries are grappling with growing healthcare challenges—from rising costs and uneven access to a shortage of healthcare professionals and ageing populations. In response, Samsung Electronics is leveraging technology to drive meaningful change and empower the next generation of problem-solvers.
Empowering Young Innovators with Solve for Tomorrow
Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow program is a key part of its Corporate Citizenship initiatives, encouraging young minds to channel their creativity and tech know-how into real-world solutions. This World Health Day, Samsung celebrates student innovators who are already making a difference in the healthcare space.
From AI-powered tools for the visually impaired to smart glasses that support those with hearing difficulties, these young changemakers are taking bold steps to improve lives in their communities.
Inspiring Innovations Across the Region
In New Zealand, 12-year-old Gabriel Anthony from Whitby Collegiate developed Pill-Bot, an AI medication identifier for the visually impaired. Motivated by his grandmother’s struggle with misidentifying medication, his invention recognizes pills and speaks their names aloud—giving visually impaired users more independence and safety.
In Singapore, students Aiden Lim and Karan Gopu Pillai from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) created SilentGuide, a pair of smart glasses that convert spoken words into real-time subtitles. Inspired by a classmate with hearing impairment, they designed a solution that works offline, is user-friendly, and remains affordable.
In Thailand, Team Kao Kee’s Cough Aid made it to the finals of Solve for Tomorrow 2024. Their AI-powered web app analyzes cough sounds to help with preliminary health assessments—offering a smart, accessible tool for early detection and monitoring.
These students receive not only mentorship from experts but also access to Samsung’s advanced technologies and resources to help bring their ideas to life.
