MGS5 EV COM Arrives in Malaysia at RM103,900, Making MG’s Electric SUV More Accessible

SAIC Motor Malaysia has expanded its locally assembled electric vehicle line-up with the introduction of the MGS5 EV COM, giving Malaysian buyers a more affordable entry point into the brand’s rear-wheel-drive electric B-segment SUV.

Priced at RM103,900 in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding road tax and insurance, the new COM variant sits below the existing MGS5 EV LUX and is aimed at customers looking for an electric SUV without stretching into the higher price range.

With the new addition, the MGS5 EV is now available in two variants: the COM, offering a driving range of up to 340km, and the LUX, offering up to 446km.

A More Affordable MGS5 EV

According to SAIC Motor Malaysia, the new MGS5 EV COM is designed to make electric mobility more accessible while retaining the model’s key strengths in performance, safety and technology.

Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said the company sees continued growth in both the SUV and electric vehicle segments and believes the new variant will allow more Malaysians to experience the MG brand.

The MGS5 EV COM is powered by a 49kWh battery, producing 170PS and 250Nm of torque. It offers a claimed driving range of up to 340km.

For buyers who want more power and longer range, the MGS5 EV LUX uses a larger 62kWh battery, producing 203PS and 350Nm of torque, with a claimed range of up to 446km.

Both variants retain a rear-wheel-drive layout.

What Do You Lose With the COM?

The lower price of the COM does come with some differences compared with the LUX.

The MGS5 EV COM features fabric seats instead of the LUX’s ventilated leatherette seats. It also gets 17-inch black alloy wheels, compared with the LUX’s 18-inch alloy wheels.

Charging performance is also slightly lower, with the COM supporting DC fast charging of up to 120kW, while the LUX supports up to 150kW.

Another noticeable difference is the absence of a panoramic sunroof on the COM.

However, the more affordable variant still retains many of the features that make the MGS5 EV appealing as an everyday electric SUV.

Safety Remains a Priority

Despite its entry-level positioning, MG has not stripped away the key safety equipment.

Both MGS5 EV variants come equipped with seven airbags and MG Pilot ADAS 2.5, the brand’s advanced driver assistance system.

The system includes features such as Traffic Jam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control, providing additional assistance during everyday driving.

The MGS5 EV also uses an ultra-thin battery layout, which helps lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity. This contributes to improved driving stability while also helping to maximise cabin space.

MGS5 EV LUX for a More Premium Experience

For customers willing to spend more, the MGS5 EV LUX adds several comfort and convenience upgrades.

The LUX comes with premium perforated leatherette seats, ventilated front seats and power-adjustable front seats, along with a heated leather steering wheel.

It also gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof and a hands-free powered tailgate.

The MGS5 EV LUX is priced at RM116,900 in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding road tax and insurance.

Colours and Interior

The MGS5 EV COM is available in Silver and Grey, while the LUX variant is offered in Gold, Silver and Grey.

Both variants feature a contemporary dark interior, with the COM using fabric upholstery and the LUX receiving premium leatherette seats.

The overall design retains the MGS5 EV’s modern and sporty character, giving the two variants a similar visual identity despite their equipment differences.

Long-Term Ownership Assurance

MG is also backing the MGS5 EV range with an ownership assurance package designed to provide additional peace of mind for buyers.

Both variants come with a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 180,000km battery pack warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000km Motor Control Unit warranty.

For buyers considering their first electric vehicle, warranty coverage for the battery and key electric components can be an important factor when evaluating long-term ownership.

Launch Offers for Malaysian Buyers

The new MGS5 EV COM is now available for viewing and booking at MG showrooms nationwide.

Priced at RM103,900, the COM comes with a RM3,000 rebate and a complimentary wallbox as part of the launch offer.

MG is also running a test-drive campaign. Customers who test-drive the MGS5 EV from now until 30 September 2026 will stand a chance to win a MacBook Neo or RM50 in Touch ‘n Go eWallet credits.

With the introduction of the MGS5 EV COM, MG is clearly targeting buyers who want to make the switch to an electric SUV while keeping their initial purchase price closer to the RM100,000 mark.

At RM103,900, the COM offers a lower-cost entry into the MGS5 EV range, while the LUX remains available for those who prioritise longer range and additional premium features.
