MediaTek is pushing its flagship smartphone platform further with the launch of the Dimensity 9600 Pro, bringing the company’s latest 2nm chip technology together with faster performance, improved power efficiency, advanced on-device AI and next-generation gaming capabilities.

Built on the new 2nm process node, the Dimensity 9600 Pro marks another step forward for MediaTek’s Dimensity lineup. The company says the new platform is designed to deliver flagship-level performance while improving efficiency, with a strong focus on the growing role of AI in smartphones.

“AI is central to the smartphone experience,” said JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek and General Manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit. He added that the Dimensity 9600 Pro is designed around a Native AI architecture to support new agentic AI experiences while improving both performance and power efficiency.

More Power Without Simply Chasing Performance

Under the hood, the Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU design, consisting of two C2-Ultra cores running at up to 4.55GHz and six C2-Pro big cores running at different frequencies.

Compared with the previous generation, MediaTek claims up to 17% higher single-core performance and up to 15% higher multi-core performance, while multi-core power consumption is reduced by up to 61%.

For smartphone users, this could translate into faster app launches, smoother multitasking and better sustained performance without putting the same level of pressure on battery life.

Agentic AI Takes a Bigger Role

AI is one of the biggest focuses of the Dimensity 9600 Pro.

The platform features a dual-NPU architecture and MediaTek’s Agentic AI Engine, designed to allow smartphones to process information, understand context and respond more intelligently directly on the device.

The second-generation Super Efficient NPU is designed to reduce power consumption for always-on AI by up to 40%, while the NPU 1090 delivers up to 51% higher LLM prefill performance and up to 55% higher token generation per watt.

The platform also supports on-device AI models of up to 30 billion parameters. This opens the door to more demanding AI functions, including analysing information stored on the phone, providing proactive assistance and generating more personalised responses based on user preferences.

MediaTek is also combining CPU and NPU resources through its AI Computing Fusion Architecture, supported by a larger 34.5MB cache. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is also the first in the Dimensity lineup to support LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage.

Its upgraded Dimensity Scheduling Engine then helps coordinate processing power, memory and power consumption, particularly when multiple apps are running in the background.

Gaming Gets a Major Boost

For mobile gamers, the Dimensity 9600 Pro comes with the new G2-Ultra NX GPU, delivering up to 27% higher peak performance, while reducing power consumption at peak performance by up to 24%.

Ray tracing performance is also up by as much as 18%, helping bring more advanced lighting and visual effects to mobile games.

MediaTek says the platform can support gaming at up to 185fps, while its new Dimensity Neural Graphics Architecture combines GPU and AI processing to improve graphical performance.

Together with MediaTek HyperEngine, the aim is to deliver smoother gameplay, higher-resolution graphics and a more immersive gaming experience without sacrificing power efficiency.

Imaging Designed for Creators

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is also built around more advanced computational photography and video capabilities.

It features the Imagiq 1290 ISP alongside MediaTek’s new Dimensity AI Imaging Fusion Architecture, which combines ISP and NPU processing for more advanced imaging.

The platform supports 60fps NPU-powered motion capture and introduces 4K 240fps native direct-output ultra-slow-motion video to the Dimensity platform.

It also supports:

  • 4K 60fps AI True Color Tone
  • 4K 120fps cinematic log video
  • 17EV imaging
  • Real-time AI imaging capabilities
  • Advanced computational photography

For content creators, these features could give future smartphones more flexibility when shooting everything from everyday photos to cinematic video and high-frame-rate slow motion.

Dimensity 9600M Brings More Flagship Features to More Phones

Alongside the Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek has also introduced the Dimensity 9600M.

The new platform is positioned to bring more flagship-level experiences to a wider range of smartphones, combining high-performance CPU cores with MediaTek’s focus on power efficiency.

The Dimensity 9600M also features the Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine, supporting on-device AI, real-time AI-enhanced imaging and more responsive everyday performance.

Gaming is another focus, with MediaTek HyperEngine supporting gameplay at up to 185fps, while the platform also includes advanced connectivity and imaging technologies.

What This Means for the Next Generation of Smartphones

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is more than a specification upgrade. MediaTek is clearly positioning its latest flagship platform around three areas that are becoming increasingly important to smartphone users: AI, performance and efficiency.

The move to 2nm, combined with faster CPU and GPU performance, new memory and storage standards, advanced imaging and on-device agentic AI, gives smartphone manufacturers a much broader hardware foundation to build their next flagship devices.

The first smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M are expected to launch this quarter, bringing these technologies into actual consumer devices.
