Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 Gets Smaller Design, Longer Finding Range and Cross-OS Support

Misplacing your keys, luggage or even a pet can quickly turn into a stressful search. Samsung is looking to make that process easier with the new Galaxy SmartTag3, a more compact tracker designed to help users locate their belongings from farther away while also introducing cross-platform support for Galaxy and iOS devices.

The new tracker is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation, making it easier to attach to everyday items such as keys, smaller bags, luggage and pet collars.

Samsung has also upgraded the finding experience with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), faster Galaxy Find Network updates and new proactive alerts.

Smaller and Easier to Carry

Galaxy SmartTag3 features a rounded design with an aluminium-decorated button, giving it a more compact and refined look while keeping it practical for everyday use.

The smaller body makes it easier to attach to items that may not have much space for a tracker.

Samsung is also introducing new official accessories, including a Silicone Case with a keyring and a Loop Case, giving users more ways to attach the SmartTag3 to their belongings.

Works Across Galaxy and iOS

For the first time in the Galaxy SmartTag series, the SmartTag3 supports cross-OS compatibility between Galaxy and iOS devices.

Through SmartThings Find, users can check and share a tag’s location and access supported finding features such as Search Nearby.

This could be particularly useful for families or groups where everyone may not use the same smartphone platform.

For example, if someone borrows your suitcase for a trip, they can use their own supported Galaxy or iOS device to access the SmartTag3’s core finding and sharing features.

Up to 790 Days of Battery Life

Samsung is also promising long battery life, with Galaxy SmartTag3 offering up to:

  • 550 days under standard usage
  • 790 days in Power Saving Mode

That means users can attach the tracker to everyday belongings and potentially leave it in place for a long period without having to worry about constantly replacing or recharging the battery.

Find Your Belongings from Further Away

One of the biggest upgrades comes to the way users locate a missing item.

Galaxy SmartTag3 expands the range of Compass View, allowing users to receive distance and directional guidance from up to 60 metres away.

Samsung says this is around three times farther than the previous generation.

The improvement comes from Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, which helps provide more accurate distance and directional information.

As users get closer to the tagged item, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) can provide greater precision for the final stage of the search.

So, if your keys disappear somewhere in a large park, for example, Compass View can help narrow down the general location before providing more precise guidance as you get closer.

Galaxy Find Network Helps When Your Phone Loses Connection

What happens when the SmartTag3 is no longer within direct Bluetooth range of your phone?

This is where the Galaxy Find Network comes into play.

Samsung says more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes. These devices can help detect a Galaxy SmartTag3 and update its location even when it is beyond the range of the owner’s smartphone.

Samsung has also improved the speed of Galaxy Find Network updates, allowing new location information to surface sooner after a tracker becomes disconnected.

For travellers, this could be particularly useful when luggage or another tagged item becomes separated from its owner.

New Alerts Can Keep You Informed

Galaxy SmartTag3 is also designed to do more than simply help users search for a missing item.

The new Place Notification feature allows users to define an area and receive an alert when a tagged item moves into or out of that location.

For example, users could set an area around their home and receive a notification if a tagged bicycle moves away from its usual parking area.

For pet owners, it could also provide an alert when a tagged pet leaves a defined area such as a garden.

Other features include Location History, which lets users review where their tag has been, and Movement Detection Alert, which can notify users when movement is detected.

These features are designed to reduce the need to constantly open the app and manually check the tracker’s location.

More Than Just a Tracker

Galaxy SmartTag3 also retains several existing Galaxy SmartTag features.

Its NFC-powered Lost Mode can display registered contact information or a short message when a lost tag is scanned using a compatible mobile device.

The SmartTag3 can also work with SmartThings IoT Control, allowing users to press the tag’s button to trigger preset routines for compatible connected devices.

Meanwhile, Left Behind Alert can notify users when their mobile device loses connection with a tagged belonging.

Built with Privacy in Mind

As a device designed to provide location information, privacy and security remain an important part of the SmartTag experience.

Samsung says location data is encrypted to help protect users’ privacy.

The SmartTag3 also carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, making it better suited to everyday use where it may encounter dust, splashes or moisture.

Galaxy SmartTag3 Availability

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 will first be available in South Korea from 7 October 2026, followed by the United States, with additional markets expected to follow in 2027.

It will be available in White and Black.

For Malaysian consumers, Samsung has not yet announced local availability details. More information is expected through Samsung Malaysia’s newsroom as additional markets are confirmed.
