Sony Malaysia Introduces the New FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS Telephoto Lens
May 26, 2026Sony has officially unveiled the new Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, the latest addition to its premium G Master™ lens lineup designed for full-frame Alpha™ E-mount cameras.
Built for wildlife, birding, sports, and photojournalism creators, the new telephoto zoom lens combines high-resolution optics, fast autofocus performance, and a lightweight internal zoom design for enhanced mobility in demanding shooting environments.
Premium G Master Optical Performance
The Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS covers a versatile 100-400 mm focal range while maintaining a constant F4.5 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range, helping eliminate exposure shifts during zooming.
Sony states that the lens is capable of delivering exceptional sharpness and detailed image reproduction across the entire zoom range, even when shooting wide open at F4.5.
The optical design incorporates newly developed ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion extreme aspherical), XA (extreme aspherical), two Super ED, and three ED glass elements. Together, these elements effectively reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations while maintaining high resolution from the centre to the edges of the frame.
To further improve image quality, Sony equips the lens with Nano AR Coating II technology, which helps minimise ghosting and flare for cleaner, higher-contrast images, especially in backlit conditions.
The lens also features an 11-blade circular aperture with precision spherical aberration control, delivering the smooth and natural bokeh performance that defines Sony’s G Master series.
For creators requiring additional reach, the lens supports optional teleconverters, extending focal lengths up to 800 mm on full-frame cameras or 1,200 mm when used in APS-C mode.
Faster Autofocus Performance
Sony has significantly improved autofocus performance with the integration of four custom-optimised XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, and the company’s latest autofocus algorithms.
According to Sony, the lens delivers autofocus speeds up to approximately three times faster compared to the previous Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS model, alongside approximately 50% improved subject tracking performance.
The lens is also fully compatible with the Sony Alpha 9 III, supporting continuous shooting at up to 120 fps with full AF/AE tracking.
Lightweight Design for Greater Mobility
Despite its professional-grade telephoto capabilities, the lens weighs approximately 1,840 g (65 oz.) thanks to Sony’s advanced optical and mechanical engineering combined with lightweight magnesium alloy barrel components.
The lens also adopts an internal zoom structure, maintaining a constant length and stable centre of gravity throughout the zoom range. This allows photographers to make framing adjustments more smoothly without affecting balance, making handheld and monopod shooting more comfortable during extended sessions.
Built for Professional Use
Sony equips the lens with built-in optical stabilisation that supports Active Mode and coordinates with compatible camera body stabilisation systems for more stable handheld shooting.
Additional professional-focused features include support for breathing compensation during video recording, four focus hold buttons for easier operation in different shooting orientations, and a dedicated function ring for customisable controls.
The lens also features a dust and moisture-resistant construction alongside a fluorine-coated front element to maintain reliable performance in challenging outdoor environments.
Availability in Malaysia
The Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS will be available in Malaysia starting May 2026 with a suggested retail price of RM17,999.
