Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. proudly announced that eight product series across its 2024 Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame lineups have been awarded the prestigious “Product Carbon Reduction” certification by TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization. This certification highlights the significant reduction in the carbon footprint of these products compared to the previous year’s models, showcasing Samsung’s commitment to sustainability and carbon emission reduction.

Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s dual commitment to pushing the boundaries of TV capabilities and advancing sustainability efforts. As a leading TV manufacturer globally, Samsung acknowledges its responsibility to create products that not only redefine entertainment experiences but also contribute to environmental conservation.

Frank Holzmann, Global Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Business Field Electrical, congratulated Samsung on the certification, commending the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability and tangible efforts to combat climate change. The certification serves as a testament to Samsung’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and positions the brand as a leader in the global electronics market.

TÜV Rheinland meticulously evaluated greenhouse gas emissions across the entire life cycle of Samsung’s TV products, from manufacturing and transportation to usage and disposal. The assessment adhered to international standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4, along with TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. All eight TV product series met the stringent carbon reduction standard requirements set by TÜV Rheinland. These certified series include two Neo QLED 8K, three Neo QLED 4K, two OLED, and one series of The Frame.

In addition to product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business achieved the industry’s first “Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions throughout a product’s entire life cycle, ensuring transparent and reproducible results.

Looking ahead, Samsung aims to obtain TÜV Rheinland’s “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. The recognition received for these eight product series underscores Samsung’s confidence and clear direction in developing the next generation of decarbonized TV products.

This recent certification adds to Samsung’s ongoing sustainability achievements, building upon previous certifications from the Carbon Trust. Samsung obtained its first “Reducing CO2” certification in 2021 for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. In 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification. In the latest acknowledgment, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by both the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.
