Samsung Newsroom delves deeper into the heart of Samsung Core Tech in its second installment, unraveling the narratives behind the technology that forms the backbone of Samsung’s home appliances. In a world where consumers seek reliability, advanced features, and hassle-free living, Samsung has responded with Core Tech—a philosophy grounded in four key themes: Outstanding, AI-powered, Flexible Use, and Durable and sustainable. By infusing innovative technologies aligned with these principles across its array of home appliances, Samsung aims to empower users to optimize their living spaces with unparalleled efficiency and ease.

WindFree™ Cooling: Tradition Meets Innovation

Tackling the age-old discomfort of strong, chilly breezes from air conditioners, Samsung introduces WindFree™ cooling. Inspired by the traditional Korean practice of seokbinggo (stone ice storage), this ‘Outstanding’ technology disperses air through over 23,000 micro air holes, creating a gentle and even cooling effect. Launched in 2015 after four years of meticulous research and development, WindFree™ cooling invites users to experience the sensation of floating inside a cool, comfortable cloud.

Auto Open Door: A Touch of Convenience for All

Ever struggled to open a refrigerator door due to the suction effect caused by internal pressure? Samsung’s Auto Open Door is the solution. With 27 patents from seven countries, this ‘Flexible Use’ feature simplifies fridge access with a single touch, catering to a wide range of users and making it particularly handy when hands are full of groceries.

Less Microfiber™ Filter and Cycle: A Sustainable Approach to Laundry

Acknowledging the threat of microplastics to ocean ecosystems, Samsung, in collaboration with Patagonia, introduces the Less Microfiber™ Cycle and Less Microfiber™ Filter in its ‘Durable and Sustainable’ category. Released in 2022 and 2023, respectively, these innovations work to reduce microplastic emissions in laundry rinse water, with the Less Microfiber™ Cycle update available through SmartThings since August 2023. Recognized by TIME as one of “The Best Inventions of 2023,” Samsung’s commitment to sustainability is evident in these groundbreaking additions to Core Tech.

A Glimpse into the Future

Samsung Core Tech is not just a retrospective; it’s a promise for the future. Developed through years of customer-centric research and observations, this philosophy sets the stage for ongoing innovation that reimagines user convenience. In the next installment, Samsung Newsroom will engage with Moohyung Lee, EVP and Head of R&D Team of Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, providing insights into the history and concepts propelling Samsung Core Tech forward.
