Continental Introduces ContiSeal Technology for Road Safety
July 31, 2024A tyre puncture on the road can pose significant safety risks and disrupt journeys, especially on Malaysian roads plagued by heavy rainfall, high traffic, potholes, and debris. The waiting time for assistance can be long and inconvenient. With self-sealing tyre technology, road users can drive with greater confidence.
Addressing these needs, Continental is expanding its innovative ContiSeal technology to a broader range of products and rim sizes. This move aims to make the technology accessible to more car owners, enhance driver safety, and transform how road users handle tyre punctures.
First introduced in 2003, ContiSeal technology has been refined for over two decades, now capable of sealing 80% of punctures and 99.9% of punctures up to 5mm in diameter. The vulcanisation process enhances the tyre’s durability and elasticity, reducing cavity noise by up to 3dB. ContiSeal creates an airtight seal for holes up to 5mm, maintaining tyre integrity and performance under challenging conditions. This eliminates the immediate need for roadside tyre changes, even if the puncturing object is dislodged.
ContiSeal technology’s reliability is unaffected by environmental factors, offering protection throughout the tyre’s lifespan. Unlike run-flat tyres, ContiSeal tyres perform like standard tyres without sacrificing comfort and require no specific vehicle modifications. They maintain integrity and performance even after a puncture, allowing unrestricted driving and can be repaired if necessary. Although initially more expensive, ContiSeal tyres save money in the long run by reducing the need for roadside assistance and frequent tyre replacements.
Continental backs ContiSeal with a standard manufacturing warranty, offering a pro-rated reimbursement for any sealing performance defects within 5mm in the tread area. Additionally, the Total Confidence Plan (TCP) provides a one-to-one tyre replacement for unexpected road damage within the first year, with claims managed through the Conti TCP app.
While ContiSeal offers an immediate fix, follow-up maintenance ensures long-term safety and performance. Continental recommends using a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to monitor tyre pressure and regular checks by specialists. Drivers should visit a dealer for thorough inspections to prevent moisture from entering the tyre, which could damage its internal structure.
By July 2024, Continental plans to incorporate ContiSeal technology across popular tyre models like the UltraContact UC7, PremiumContact C, and UltraContact UC6 SUV, in sizes ranging from 16” to 20”. Available at participating dealers nationwide and on Continental’s official Shopee and Lazada e-commerce stores, this strategic move demonstrates Continental’s commitment to bringing innovative technology to more Malaysians.
