Emirates Upgrades A380 With Starlink Wi-Fi for ‘Better Than Home’ Connectivity
April 28, 2026Emirates is taking its flagship Airbus A380 to the next level, completing the first installation of next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi onboard—marking a major leap in inflight connectivity.
The A380 was already among the first commercial aircraft to offer onboard internet, but earlier systems delivered less than 1 Mbps. With the addition of three Starlink antennas per aircraft, Emirates is now boosting connectivity by up to 1,000 times, delivering what it describes as a “better than at home” experience—even at 40,000 feet.
A New Era of Inflight Connectivity
The first Starlink-equipped A380 has returned to Dubai following installation and certification in Newquay, UK. As more aircraft undergo upgrades throughout 2026, passengers can expect seamless, high-speed internet across all cabin classes.
The service will be complimentary for all passengers, allowing users to stream, game, browse, and work on personal devices without interruption. Future enhancements will include live TV streaming via Starlink, initially on personal devices before expanding to seatback screens.
Already known for premium features such as its onboard lounge and First Class Shower Spa, the A380 now evolves into a fully connected flying experience.
Built for the World’s Largest Passenger Aircraft
As the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380 presents unique engineering challenges. Emirates’ Starlink setup is specifically designed for its double-decker layout and high passenger capacity.
The system delivers over 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth, supported by additional wireless access points and a third antenna compared to the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet. This ensures consistent, high-speed connectivity across both decks.
Rapid Rollout Across the Fleet
Installation will soon expand at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai to accelerate deployment. So far, 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are already equipped with Starlink, and more A380s are set to follow.
More than 650,000 Emirates passengers have already experienced Starlink connectivity onboard, highlighting strong early adoption of the upgraded service.
Elevating the Travel Experience
The Starlink rollout is part of Emirates’ broader investment in customer experience. The airline has refurbished over 90 aircraft, introducing upgraded cabins across all classes, including Premium Economy, enhanced Business Class, and refreshed interiors.
In addition, Emirates continues to invest in service excellence, including the launch of its dedicated cabin crew training facility, the Centre of Hospitality Excellence, to further refine onboard service standards.
