Sony has launched “Gaming Virtualiser by 360 Reality Audio,” a new plug-in software designed to help game developers easily create immersive spatial sound for games played through headphones. Integrated into Wwise®, a widely-used audio middleware, this tool offers a seamless way to add spatial sound to mobile and PC games with low load and latency, enhancing the gaming experience.

Key Features:

  1. Advanced Spatial Sound Technology:
  • Built on Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, the software enables optimized signal processing to create immersive soundscapes in 3D games, even on devices with limited processing power, such as mobile phones.
  • It offers low-latency, natural sound positioning, helping gamers easily locate sound sources like footsteps or environmental effects in the game.
  1. Wwise Integration:
  • The plug-in integrates with Wwise, allowing developers to create spatial sound fields without adjusting for each platform separately. Sounds can be customized individually for better precision, offering greater creative freedom.
  1. Validation by Developers:
  • Game developers from companies such as COLOPL, Cygames, GungHo Online Entertainment, Niantic, and SQUARE ENIX are validating the software for use in their games.
  • In COLOPL’s adventure game “PRINCIPLES PROLOGUE,” the technology has been implemented to create realistic soundscapes, enhancing immersion with detailed effects like footsteps and cave echoes.

Developers have praised the plug-in for its ease of use in environments like Unity and Wwise, and its low processing load, which makes it ideal for mobile games.
