IEC Telecom Expands to Malaysia with Starlink Connectivity

March 4, 2026 0 By Rowena Cletus

IEC Telecom Group has officially launched its Malaysia office, marking a strategic move to bring Starlink satellite internet to businesses and communities across Southeast Asia, especially in remote and rural areas, as well as the maritime sector.

While Malaysia has achieved 99.71% internet coverage in populated areas by the end of 2025, remote regions like East Malaysia still face connectivity gaps — with 5G coverage at 63.8% in Sarawak and 68.6% in Sabah. Satellite solutions are becoming essential for remote schools, fishing communities, and enterprises outside urban centers.

A successful 2024 pilot in Kampung Orang Asli Kerling, Hulu Selangor, enabled broadband for 260 residents and 100 students via satellite backhaul, demonstrating the potential to bridge Malaysia’s digital divide.
